DIRECTOR'S NOTE

It has been an honor and a privilege to work with Stark Naked Theater on this production of The God Game. I have known Philip, Kim and Justin for years, and was very excited to get the chance to work with all of them at one time. Then throw in a script like The God Game, and it was too good an opportunity to pass up.

When I sat down to read through the script, so many thoughts went through my mind. Each character brings its own perspective, passion, and life to the story. I saw each of their points of view, and empathized with them all, and I wanted an audience to feel the same way. I didn't want any of them to be seen as the enemy, even when they have moments that make you cringe. How can you say something like that to someone you love? And they each have moments that bring you tears. But, isn't that life?

At its core, The God Game is a play about life. About relationships. About what makes someone good or bad, and what is acceptable? If I lie for the greater good, isn't that justifiable? There are so many questions, conversations that are brought up from this play, and I hope that's what you walk away with…the opportunity to have conversations, to search out truth, what you believe and how our choices impact those that we love.

I have been impacted by this script, by so many great conversations, and the opportunity to work with such a talented group of actors and designers. I hope it does the same for you.
